remodeling roukies

We decided to do some DIY remodeling before moving in to our new town house.  For someone without any knowledge of DIY, we tackled some gutsy projects.

the Bedroom – replaced carpet and curtains. We took off the doors and installed sliding doors on our bathroom and closet

Master Bathroom – this was our major project – I’d say it was rather too ambitious for someone tiling for the first time.  We watched tonns of how-to videos.  We designed our pattern and chose the color of the tiles. Taking the vanity out was the hardest part, and when we finally took off the floor and came face to face with the sub floor, we gave up and decided to hire a contractor.  But the good ones all had months of wait time and that was not an option for us. So we pressed on ourselves.  Although the hex tiles came in sheets, we had to cut them to our measurements and required precision work. Somehow we got it done and proud of our accomplishments :) Walls were painted and everything except the tub were replaced.

The hallway bathroom – Although we would’ve liked to tile this one too, we left the floors which were newly replaced due to a little mishap the day before we opened escrow.  Taking the wall to wall vanity out was a bitch since it was wedged in real good.

We also got new carpets for the bedrooms and stairs.  We replaced the carpet for the loft and got flooring.  This loft will turn into our work room

We’d love to get new appliance and remodel the kitchen, but those will have to wait for phase 2 some years down the road.  We got the essentials done in time for our move date.
