Here is our little Xmas tree. This year our friend Nick invited us to spend the Eve with his family.

We rushed out our contribution for the KA fanzine January issue. also rushed out belated X-mas gifts for the family who all live out of town.

the movie “Charlie Wilson’s War” came out, and went to see it with everyone from work. Our studio worked on several matte paintings through out the movie, and my work is featured as well.

Speaking of work, it’s been a great year for me. I’ve worked on variety of genres from animation, music video, print ad, and matte paintings for film and commercials. My skills span from drawing with a pencil to digital. A lot of all-nighters, hard work, and frustrations, but over all, a good learning experience and added tons of mileage to my work experience.

It’s been a while since I made anything, so it took some trial and errors. I think it came out pretty cute.

updates – week of 12/3

As a part of style exploration exercise, I’ve been doing some research into Modern Art.  I hardly cared for this part of art history and always had a hard time understanding or appreciating the movements such as cubism, futurism, symbolism, dadaism etc etc.  I guess the point is to explore something you usually wouldn’t.  So, I forced myself to look into Cubism.  I eventually got interested in what artist tried to do in each movement coupled with the social movements of that time.   Regardless of whether you like it or not, I felt the importance of knowing what came before us.

I still don’t understand a lot of Modern Art, but I found my new favorite artist – Lyonel Feininger.  He was first a cartoon artist, creating comic strips such as “kin-der-kids” and “wee willie winkie’s world”.  Then he turned to fine art and produced cubist art, and also taught at the Bauhaus school.  There are also other artworks that I exposed myself to, and in the end, my efforts did widen my horizons. a bit.
