Checked out the Constable show.
and did some quick sketches there..
It was a gloomy day - perfect running weather. I have not ran in almost 3 years. I knew I would be hurting, but just wanted to get out.

Here is a skectch I did REAL quickly because it was a scary area, than later attempted a color wash on top.
But this is more like how I wanted it to turn out - done in photoshop..
I haven’t been happy with my sketches, and I’ve put some thought into it, analyzed the problem etc etc. But I came across these blog entries by “Temple of the Seven Golden Camels”. It was so liberating. What he writes is so true. I am wasting my time pressuring myself to “perfect” a “drawing”, instead of “sketching” and learning. It’s ok that they’re not great like all the wonderful “sketchbooks” and sketchblogs out there. The point is to try, capture what you saw, learn, and improve. And that the only way is mileage. Great great posts..

This turned out to be a huge event! I can’t believe the amount of people that showed up. It was exciting to be a part of it. I finally got to see works from all the other studios in the building. It’s been a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun and all worth it!
sketched while waiting for Thai food take out. It felt like you were in the 40’s - somewhere in Saigon or something - not that I’ve ever been there..
Took a really short family reunion trip to NJ over the weekend. Took advantage of JetBlue departing from Burbank Airport.
airport sketches:
I only had 1 day to roam the city - focused on lower Manhattan
Did a solo sketchcrawl - walked from my apartment to the Metro station, and rode the Gold line, checked out Union station, walked downtown, stopped by the motion picture costume exhibit at FIDM, and headed home. I was only out for 6 hours, so I guess that’s a half day crawl for me.
Here are some of the better sketches from that day.

I walk by these 3 all the time. What makes them want to grow sideways??

Among the development in this area, these houses remain rooted. I hope it stays that way. Although it could use some fixing.

Got off the red line at Persing Square. I know that camera was looking at me, but kept sketching.

Inside of Pacific center building. I was suprised to see such gorgeous interior.
Some more sketches to come. I did get frustrated sketching outside, when you see something, but can’t get it down like you want it. I made a lot of chicken scratch sketches and took reference photos. Hopefully I will work on it soon!
